China is not only advancing in technology and industry: it is also emerging as a powerhouse in the world of wine. Regions such as Ningxia, Shanxi, Yunnan or Yantai have begun to gain international recognition thanks to their technical development and qualitative ambition. With the aim of bringing this new reality closer to the Canary Islands sector, the Association of Sommeliers and Tasters from the Canary Islands (ASCCC) is organising a professional tasting that will provide first-hand knowledge of six references that are representative of the current panorama.
The tasting will be held on 15 December 2025, at 17:00, in Gran Canaria, exclusively for professionals in the sector.
A training initiative promoted by the ASCCC
The president of the ASCCC, Ana Angélica Hernández Pérez, Higher Technician in Viticulture, Trainer of Trainers of Wines and Vinegars of Montilla-Moriles, and Creator of Ambassadors of Canary Island Wines, promotes this call with the aim of broadening the technical perspective of the sector in the islands.
“Chinese wines are at a turning point; it is necessary to know how they are evolving in order to understand where the international market is heading,” says Hernández.
Ziyang Zhang will conduct the online tasting.

The session will be guided live online by Ziyang Zhang, a professional with a privileged vision of Chinese wine and Spanish wine, especially Canarian wine. His profile stands out for:
- Official Ambassador of the Peng Lai region (China).
- Official educator of the Yan Tai region.
- Advisor to the Chinese Embassy in Spain on wine matters.
- Director of Guía Peñín China and taster of Chinese and Spanish wines for the guide.
- Ambassador of Canarian Wines, a recognition that underlines his commitment and knowledge about the elaborations of the Archipelago.
Zhang has visited six Chinese wine regions over the past decade, interned at local wineries and tasted more than 800 Chinese wines, giving him a solid and technical overview of the current scene.
