Canary Islands viticulture is once again at the top of the national scene thanks to Ferrera Rosado seco 2024 (DOP Canary Islands), which has been chosen Best Rosé Wine of the Year in La Vanguardia newspaper’s wine guide. The recognition comes after an exhaustive tasting carried out by a jury made up of oenologists, sommeliers and specialised journalists, who are responsible for selecting the 100 essential creations each year.
A Canary Island rosé among the essential wines of 2026
The guide, a reference for professionals and enthusiasts, has awarded this rosé an outstanding score of 96 points, making it the best wine in its category for 2026. The award was presented during an event held as part of Barcelona Wine Week, one of the main international wine sector events.
The award-winning wine is made in the family winery located in Arafo, at an altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level, from 100% Listán Negro grapes from organic viticulture. The environment is marked by volcanic soils, the Atlantic influence and the altitude, factors that define the singular character of this wine.
Sensory profile and consumption recommendations
The writer and sommelier Meritxell Falgueras, member of the jury and of the guide’s editorial team, highlighted the pale, clean and vibrant colour of the wine, the result of a short maceration of between four and six hours, followed by a controlled fermentation at 16ºC before bottling.
On the nose and palate, notes of sweets and flowers stand out, with a fresh and well-defined expression. According to Falgueras, this rosé is ideal as an aperitif, as well as to accompany cheese, pasta, fish and light desserts, a versatility that reinforces its appeal both for everyday consumption and for the hotel and catering trade.
Institutional recognition of Canary Islands wine production
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, Narvay Quintero, stressed that this award “is a new endorsement of the quality and personality of Canary Island wines, which are increasingly appreciated internationally, and highlights the joint work of winegrowers, wineries and oenology professionals”.
He also recalled the importance of the promotional activities promoted by GMR Canarias through the Volcanic Xperience brand, which have allowed prescriptors and specialists to learn first-hand about the diversity and identity of the archipelago’s vineyards. The regional government will continue to support the external projection of the sector in order to open up new markets.
