The Canary Islands shine at CINVE 2026: record number of awards for its wines and gastronomic products

A qualitative leap in the Canary Islands’ list of winners

Of the total number of awards, 52 were for wines, accompanied by one vermouth, two spirits, one cider and one olive oil. This result represents an increase of 39% over the previous edition, reflecting the excellent momentum of the sector.

In the words of the Canary Island Government’s Minister of Agriculture, Narvay Quintero, these awards confirm “the very high quality of production that is increasingly valued both inside and outside the Islands”, highlighting the sector’s ability to compete on equal terms with products from all over the world.

Medal distribution: excellence in all categories

The medal tally for the Canary Islands is divided into:

  • 21 Great Golds
  • 29 Oros
  • 7 Plates

This result is particularly relevant if we take into account that the event brought together nearly 1,000 international samples, which reinforces the value of these awards.

Dominance in white wines and prominence in all typologies

Still white wines were one of the main protagonists, accumulating nine Grandes Oros, the highest award of the competition. Red, rosé, sparkling and sweet wines also stood out, demonstrating the diversity and richness of the Canary Islands’ wine scene.

Among the most renowned wines are those produced by wineries from different islands, which highlight the value of local varieties and production methods adapted to a unique territory.

Beyond wine: agri-food diversity

In addition to wine, the Canary Islands achieved important awards in other categories:

  • A vermouth, which won the only Grand Gold in its category
  • Spirits, including long-established rums
  • Cider made in the Archipelago
  • Extra virgin olive oil, which continues to gain in presence

These results reflect the growing diversification of the Canarian agri-food sector.

An added merit: to produce in a unique territory.

One of the most outstanding aspects is the context in which these productions are developed. Territorial fragmentation, remoteness and volcanic conditions have not been an obstacle, but rather an opportunity to create unique products.

As Quintero underlined, the sector has been able to transform these limitations into strengths, giving rise to products with their own identity, a strong link with the territory and first-class quality standards.

Next date: awards ceremony in Madrid

The 2026th edition of the CINVE International Wine Competition will culminate on 21 May at the Intercontinental Hotel in Madrid, where the official awards ceremony will be held. The special Gran CINVE awards, reserved for the products with the highest scores in each category, will also be announced at this event.

With this new success, the Canary Islands reaffirms its position as one of the most unique and highly valued wine and agri-food regions on the international scene, consolidating an upward trend based on quality, innovation and respect for origin.
