The wines of the Canary Islands have once again demonstrated their quality and personality at one of the most prestigious events on the national wine scene. The Baco Cosecha 2025 Awards, organised by the Spanish Tasters Union (UEC), have recognised different wines from the Archipelago with a total of 13 awards, consolidating the good moment the Canary Islands’ wine sector is going through.
These awards, considered the benchmark competition for young wines in Spain, are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and bring together hundreds of samples from the country’s main wine-producing areas. The competition exclusively distinguishes wines from the most recent harvest, assessing aspects such as freshness, varietal expression, balance and oenological quality.
Among the recognitions obtained by the Canary Islands, the Gran Baco de Oro awarded to El Ancón Tinto Joven 2025, produced by Bodegas Insulares Tenerife, within the DOP Islas Canarias, stands out. This is the highest distinction achieved by a Canary Island wine in this edition of the competition.
In addition, the wineries of the Archipelago were awarded three Bacos de Oro. In the Abona PDO, Testamento Malvasía Aromática Dry 2025, from the Sociedad Cooperativa Cumbres de Abona, was distinguished. For its part, PDO Lanzarote obtained an important recognition thanks to El Grifo Rosado de Lágrima 2025, while Ferrera Albillo Criollo Ecológico 2025, from Bodegas Ferrera, achieved a new medal for the PDO Canary Islands.
The silver medals also had an outstanding presence from the Canary Islands. Pagos de Reverón Blanco Seco Ecológico 2025, Pagos de Reverón Blanco Malvasía Aromática 2025 and Cumbres de Abona Rosado 2025 were awarded in the Abona PDO. The Lanzarote PDO added three new awards thanks to El Grifo Seco Colección 2025, Martinón Blanco Seco 2025 and Rubicón Blanco Seco 2025.
Likewise, the Tacoronte-Acentejo PDO obtained a silver medal with Viña Norte Tinto Maceración Carbónica 2025, produced by Bodegas Insulares Tenerife, while Bodegas Ferrera once again stood out in the Canary Islands PDO with the distinctions awarded to Ferrera Blanco Seco Ecológico 2025 and Ferrera Tinto Ecológico 2025.
In total, the Canary Islands closed its participation with 13 awards, distributed in one Grand Gold Bacchus, three Gold Bacchus and nine Silver Bacchus. The results reflect the excellent evolution of the island’s wineries and the growing projection of wines made in unique volcanic territories, capable of offering differentiated profiles that are increasingly valued by experts and consumers.
By appellation of origin, the greatest successes came from Abona, Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, while in this edition there were no award-winning wines from the PDOs El Hierro, La Gomera, Gran Canaria, Valle de Güímar and Valle de La Orotava.
The presence of the Canary Islands in the awards once again confirms the strength of a sector that continues to be committed to quality, territorial identity and the recovery of native varieties, elements that continue to position the wines of the archipelago among the most unique on the national scene.
