Small appellations are once again claiming their place on the national wine scene

Small wine-producing regions will once again take centre stage next July with the tenth edition of the National Small DO Wine Competition, an event that was created with the aim of giving visibility to designations of origin with lower production volumes and which, a decade later, has become a benchmark for the sector.

The event will take place on 3 July in Madrid, where a jury made up of sommeliers, oenologists, specialised journalists and professionals from the world of wine will evaluate the participating samples through rigorous blind tastings.

An opportunity for Canarian wineries

The competition is a new opportunity for the wineries belonging to the eleven wine designations of origin in the Canary Islands to showcase the uniqueness of their wines and compete on equal terms with producers from other small Spanish wine regions.

Participation in this type of events allows the wineries to increase their visibility, access new promotional channels and reinforce the positioning of wines that stand out for their personality, volcanic origin and indigenous varieties.

Ten years promoting the diversity of Spanish wine

Throughout its ten editions, the National Small DO Wines Competition has established itself as a platform for recognising the quality of productions which, despite having fewer promotional and commercial resources than the large wine-growing areas, offer differentiated proposals closely linked to their territories.

The organisation stresses that the growing interest of consumers and professionals in discovering limited production wines has contributed to strengthening the prestige of this event, which is committed to authenticity and diversity as fundamental values.

New promotional actions for award-winning wines

Among the new features of this year’s edition is the launch of promotional activities aimed at strengthening the dissemination of the winning wines. The awards obtained will enable the wineries to participate in tastings organised together with professional sommelier associations, as well as increasing their visibility among distributors, opinion leaders and specialised consumers.

Likewise, the wines distinguished with the Gran Oro category will once again have a prominent presence in the specialised publication Guía Intervinos, thus increasing their projection in the national market.

Much more than a competition

In addition to the competition, the event will serve as a meeting point for professionals from the sector, the media, distributors and wine enthusiasts. The day will encourage the exchange of experiences and the creation of new business opportunities for projects that represent the richness and diversity of Spain’s wine heritage.

With this tenth edition, the competition reaffirms its commitment to small designations of origin and to those producers who have managed to turn the dimension of their territories into a sign of identity and differentiation.

Interested wineries can now register to take part in this new edition of the event.
