The Tacoronte-Acentejo Designation of Origin is celebrating a new edition of its summer programme in San Cristóbal de La Laguna with activities that combine wine, gastronomy, art, cinema, theatre and heritage.
The city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna will once again become one of the main stages of wine culture in the Canary Islands during the month of June with the celebration of a new edition of the enocultural proposal promoted by the Tacoronte-Acentejo Designation of Origin. The initiative, now in its thirteenth year, reinforces its commitment to the dissemination of wine culture through a wide-ranging programme aimed at audiences of all ages.
The official presentation took place in the historic Casa de los Capitanes, with the participation of Cristina Ledesma, councillor for Rural Development of the Town Hall of La Laguna, together with José Manuel González and María Paz Gil, president and manager of the Tacoronte-Acentejo D.O. Regulatory Council.
A journey through wine through culture
The programme combines the world of wine with disciplines as diverse as gastronomy, literature, comics, opera, cinema, theatre and the plastic arts. The proposal seeks to bring the world of wine closer from an open and participative perspective, integrating cultural and gastronomic experiences in different spaces of the city.
Ten wineries from the region will be present at this edition: Mallar de los Trazos, Viña El Drago, El Cercado, Tierra Fundida, Cráter, Trancao de Acentejo, Guayonge, Viña Estévez, Linaje del Pago and Hacienda de Acentejo, which will show the public the diversity and richness of the wines produced in this historic wine-growing area of Tenerife.
Restaurants and shops join the celebration
The programme will also count on the collaboration of numerous catering establishments and specialised shops in La Laguna. These include Fundación México Canarias, Taberna El Remojo, Tasca La Cencerra, La Topa, La Tropical, Taberna Santo Domingo, Taberna Mata Males, Clandestino Wine Bar, WineLight Wine Bar, Charcutería Víveres Jacinto, Restaurante Casa Domingo, La Tiendita de Sprungmann and SuperCOR La Laguna.
These spaces will host different activities and gastronomic proposals aimed at promoting the pairing of Tacoronte-Acentejo wines with local cuisine.
Art, urban routes and unique experiences
The agenda includes literary meetings and signing sessions organised by Librería Lemus, with the participation of renowned authors and illustrators; the broadcasting of the opera Rigoletto from the Royal Opera House in London; guided tours of the historic centre under the title La Laguna on foot to the sound of wine; talks on the relationship between wine and opera; live programmes focusing on the connection between wine and cinema; theatre performances at the Teatro Leal and art exhibitions in various cultural venues in the city.
Among the most outstanding novelties is the launch of the first Wine Bar Route in the Canary Islands, an itinerary that will take in several specialised establishments located between Calle Viana and the Junta Suprema area. The initiative aims to promote the concept of wine bars, places where wine by the glass plays a leading role in the gastronomic offer.
SanBetinto, the big event of the programme
The highlight will come on Thursday 25 June with the celebration of a new edition of SanBetinto, one of the most eagerly awaited events for wine lovers in Tenerife.
The Plaza de La Concepción will once again bring together wineries, restaurateurs and the public in a great food and wine festival where it will be possible to taste the wines of Tacoronte-Acentejo accompanied by a selection of tapas prepared by local establishments. The activity will take place between 18:00 and 23:00 and promises to become, once again, the great collective toast of the summer in La Laguna.
The complete programme can be consulted through the official channels of the Tacoronte-Acentejo Designation of Origin.
