The wine from the SAT Viticultores Comarca de Güímar has won the CERVIM 2026 Grand Prize as the entry with the highest overall score in the international competition
Among the 105 awards won by the Canary Islands at the 2026 Mondial des Vins Extrêmes, one name stands out: Pico Cho Marcial Afrutado 2025.
The SAT Viticultores Comarca de Güímar wine, produced under the Valle de Güímar PDO, was awarded the CERVIM Grand Prize 2026, an honour reserved for the wine that achieves the highest overall score in the competition.
This recognition takes on particular significance given the scale of participation in this year’s event: 1,175 productions from 432 companies across 22 countries.
Double recognition for the Güímar-based organisation
The success did not end with the award for the highest-scoring wine. SAT Viticultores Comarca de Güímar also received the CERVIM 2026 Special Award, presented to the company with the highest score per country, for which a minimum of 80 points must be achieved with three wines from different categories.
This result places the Güímar Valley region in a particularly prominent position on the international map of mountain and extreme viticulture.
The Valle de Güímar PDO won a total of eight medals at this year’s event, as part of the Canary Islands’ overall tally of 105 awards.
The Canary Islands are also a hit with Quíquere and Timanfaya
Pico Cho Marcial was not the only wine from the Islands to receive one of the major special awards.
Quíquere Blanco Seco 2025, from Gallo & Quíquere Wines, won the CERVIM 2026 Excellence Award, as well as the Vinofed 2026 Award for the best dry wine in the competition.
For its part, Timanfaya Moscatel Dulce Selección 1999, produced by Bodegas Timanfaya and part of the Lanzarote PDO, won the CERVIM Original 2026 Award, which recognises the best wine made from grape varieties grown in ungrafted vineyards.
This latest recognition is particularly significant for the Canary Islands due to the exceptional preservation of ungrafted vineyards that characterises much of the archipelago’s wine-growing industry.
An award for the wine and for the region
The Grand Prix won by Pico Cho Marcial Afrutado 2025 goes beyond the specific award-winning product.
It also recognises the work of the winegrowers of the Güímar Valley and a region where vines are cultivated from areas close to the coast up to high altitudes, creating a remarkable diversity of viticultural conditions.
The award also provides an opportunity to boost the international profile of wines from Tenerife and the Canary Islands by capitalising on precisely what sets them apart: their unique grape varieties, landscape, winemaking tradition and growing conditions that are difficult to replicate in other regions of the world.
